This flower water is distilled from the beautiful white magnolia flowers, or Michelia Alba. It is also called white sandalwood or white champaca (derived from the Indonesian Cempaka Putih). In Sanskrit, it is called Nag Champa, after the Indian god Nagara, because its petals resemble a snake’s head. Magnolia symbolizes reincarnation, eternal life, and the victory of joy over ego

In Taiwan, the flowers are plucked from the trees before they open and the bunches are strung on wire to be sold on the roadside to truck drivers and taxi drivers. The flowers remain fragrant for several days before fading.
