It grows most abundantly on rocks and in moist places of Bulgarian forests at higher altitudes. You can recognize it by its typical distinctive smell and purple-pink flowers. The Bulgarian name Zdravets is derived from the word "ZDRAVE ", health, probably because this plant is a source of high content of essential oils, antioxidants and many other beneficial components. It is closely connected with Bulgarian folk healing and traditions. It symbolizes not only health, but also longevity and vitality. To this day, it is a traditional plant for all important life ceremonies such as weddings, baptisms and blessings of prosperity.
