Interesting facts

The Latin name Melauleca of this aromatic tree comes from the combination of two Greek words molasses, meaning black, and leukos, meaning white. It refers to the contrast created by the papery white bark with the dark leaves. The modern name tea tree originated from a practice introduced by Captain James Cook in the 18th century. After landing in Australia, he was so fascinated by the tree and its aromatic leaves that he began making tea from it.
