This essential oil is one of the rarest oils, because to obtain 1 kg of its essential oil, 1 ton of fresh orange blossoms must be distilled. It is said that neroli essential oil is one of the secret ingredients of Coca Cola. Together with lavender, bergamot, rosemary and lemon essential oils, it was part of the original Eau-de Cologne. To this day, it is part of the compositions of world-famous perfumes: Chanel, Paco Rabanne, Acqua di Parma, Guerlain, etc.

G. Mojay in his book Aromatherapy for the Healing of the Soul (p. 116) writes that the name “Neroli” bears “after Anne Marie de la Tremoille, princess of Neroli (located near Rome), who in the 17th century introduced its essential oil to Italian companies. Anna Marie used its scent wherever possible – on her gloves, stationery and scarves.”

The beneficial effects of oranges were already noticed by the ancient Chinese, Japanese and Arabs. There are no wild sweet orange trees. Orange trees are divided into two main species: the Chinese orange tree (Citrus sinensis) and the larger and more resistant Seville orange tree (Citrus Aurantium var. Amara), from whose fragrant flowers this aromatic oil comes. The flowers of the Seville orange tree (neroli) have also historically adorned brides' veils and wedding bouquets as a symbol of purity and virginity.
