Frangipani originates from Central America, but grows abundantly in Java and Bali, from where its name is derived, in the local language it is referred to as ""Bunga Jepun"and in Java it is called "bunga cambodia". On the island of Bali, it is a basic flower in sacrificial rituals and an integral part of the identity of this nation. It is a symbol of the Hindu god Shiva.

Did you know that Frangipani is named after a fictional hero from the 19th century?! It was invented in 1855 by the owners of a luxury London perfumery to elevate their new perfume. The fictional hero, the botanist Mercutio Frangipani, was supposed to accompany Christopher Columbus on his journey to the New World and be behind the discovery of this exotic and intoxicatingly fragrant flower,  "Plumeria alba"In fact, the name “frangipanni” comes from the Italian for “broken bread” and the plant is named after the botanist of the French King Louis XIV, Charles Plumier.
