Some essential oils drip faster and others slower. As if the droplet didn't want to flow down. The reason is the so-called relative density of the oils, which also determines how many milliliters are in one gram of this treasure and whether 1 gram of essential oil corresponds to 1 milliliter. You may be surprised, but 1 gram of essential oil does not equal 1 ml. On the contrary There is more than 1 ml of oil in 1 gram. And today we will show you why this is so and, in addition, we will reveal to you how many drops are in 1 ml of oil.
Some essential oils are very thin and almost flow into your mixtures, such as citrus . And others are thicker and seemingly don't want to run off, like myrrh or vetiver. Somewhere in the middle is rare rose oils.
How toroars ml and grams of essential oil
We use the following formula for the calculation:
relative density = mass : volume
volume = mass : relative density

How many drops are in 1 ml of essential oil?
Because we have answered the question - does 1g of essential oil correspond to 1 milliliter? Another very important one immediately arises. How many drops are in 1 ml of oil? As we have already explained, each essential oil has a different relative density and therefore its volume varies accordingly. Therefore, in 1 ml can be between 20-40 drops of essential oil, let's say on average around 30.
Is a “drop” of essential oils the ideal unit of measurement?
For most simple recipes such as fragrant aroma mixtures, the so-called “drop” as a unit of measurement is quite sufficient. However, trouble would arise when we were making a more sophisticated homemade cosmetic product. We will never achieve accuracy using drops, because we already know that each essential oil has a different relative density, viscosity, but also a different size of droppers, and in addition, the room temperature also plays an influence, and last but not least, the human factor. When making cosmetics, we need to choose whether we will weigh all the ingredients in grams or measure them by volume, i.e. milliliters. And then we will have a lot of fun. But more on that next time.
