How to treat oily skin and enlarged pores

Oily skin is often mistakenly described as a problem for teenagers. However, the truth is a little different. So we'll take a simple and straight-to-the-point look at it with practical tips. So let's get started!

Why does the skin get oily?!

The oiliness itself is caused by the production of sebum, which is a mixture of fats, waxes, squalene and free fatty acids. Its main function is to protect the skin from moisture loss, moisturize it and the hair, regulate temperature and also provide a certain degree of protection from the oxidative effects of UV radiation. All of this sounds great, necessary and logical, right?!

The opposite, however, is the unpleasant overproduction of sebum, which creates that oily and shiny coating and the subsequent problem – acne and enlarged pores. Unfortunately, the amount of sebum production depends on age, gender, genetic predisposition, our diet, current psychological state and also hormonal levels. So there are things that we can influence with our own care and concern. We will name a few of them that are definitely worth trying.

Proper skin cleansing

Wash your skin twice a day with lukewarm water and without a hard washcloth. Rubbing it would provoke further sebum production. Clean your skin carefully so that grease and other impurities do not accumulate in the pores, which leads to their further expansion. The key is to be really gentle. It is important that we only remove excess sebum and do not unnecessarily deprive the skin of its protective lipid layer. Because then it will defend itself with, guess what, more sebum production. And that is the well-known vicious circle.

Toning with floral waters

Then tone your skin with a suitable floral water that restores its naturally acidic pH. You can also use one that balances sebum production or has astringent (tightening) effects. To stabilize sebum production, choose sweeter tones. white rose flower water, whose aroma also enhances your good mood. If you need something “spicier”, refresh yourself with antiseptic mint waterBy the way, this summer you will definitely appreciate its cooling effect on mosquito bites!

Champion elderflower

Floral waters such as elderflower, yarrow, wormwood, or cypress will provide your skin with very good astringent (tightening) effects. Elderflower From my personal experience, it is truly a champion in this. It tightens the skin immediately and has proven itself even on problematic skin. Yarrow It can be a classic counterbalance to elderflower in terms of scent. Where elderflower is refreshing, yarrow is warming. That's why it often suits men. Wormwood water is unique with its distinctive sweet-spicy and magical aroma. And cypress water is a booster for dull, lifeless oily skin. In addition to its astringent effects, it supports the circulatory system, improves blood circulation, so you can use it not only for your skin but also for cellulite.

Regular peelings

Include regular exfoliation in your skincare routine to help remove dead skin cells, which are also the culprits behind clogged pores. Exfoliate once a week. If you don't have a store-bought one on hand, you can make one quickly and easily at home.

Brightening peeling

2 teaspoons cane sugar (fine grinder)
1 teaspoon honey (natural emollient)
1 teaspoon safflower, rosehip whether grape oil (vegetable oils that do not clog pores)
1 drop lavender essential oil (Effectively reduces sebum production)
1 drop lemon essential oil (Helps remove excess sebum)

DIY face mask

Also make a face mask that mattifies and cleanses pores. Mix green clay with lavender whether nettle water, which again remove excess sebum and also help reduce its production. Apply to a clean face and leave on for about 15 minutes. Be careful, clay masks should never dry completely. Therefore, you can additionally moisturize it by spraying one of the above-mentioned floral waters. Then wash with lukewarm water. Tone with a suitable floral water and apply the next care step, such as a facial serum. By the way, we have one with a delicate floral scent for you. Check out DESIRE.

PS: Enjoy the beautiful summer and don't forget that sebum is not our enemy, but also a helper in maintaining a healthy skin barrier.
